What’re the Basic Requirements Should a Good Formwork System Satisfy?
A good formwork system should have the following characteristics:
1. The joints in the formwork system should be tight against leakage of cement grout. Don’t leave the gaps between the formwork system panels.
2. Construction of the formwork system should permit the removal of various parts in desired sequences without damage to the concrete. The thing you should remember is that the good formwork system should have the characteristics of easy erect and disassemble which will save you time and labor forces.
3. The material used to manufacture the formwork system should be cheap, durable, easily available and should be suitable for longtime reuse.
4. A good formwork system should be set accurately to the desired line and levels and it also should have the plane surface to ensure the concrete’s surface be plane.
5. As a good formwork system, it should be rigidly constructed and efficiently propped and braced both horizontally and vertically, so as to retain its shape and make the structure stable. The most important point is to ensure the quality of pouring concrete.
6. A good formwork system should be as light as possible. With the advantage of lightweight, the single components of the formwork system can be handled by only one person which will reduce the time to erect and disassemble the formwork system, and also save labor forces.
7. The material of the formwork should not warp or get distorted when exposed to the elements.
8. A good formwork system should be erected on a firm base with high strength acrow props.
9. Finally, as a good formwork system, its structure should be strong enough to withstand all types of dead loads, live loads and dynamic loads.
