What is the Putlog Scaffolding System?

Time:2019/05/30

Putlog Scaffolding System, which also known as a bricklayer’s scaffold, it involves using the wall of a structure being built as support for the working platform. Putlog scaffold is derived from old masonry: the hole in the wall of a structure under construction is where you “put the log”.

As the putlog scaffolding system consists of one row of standards, it is also referred to as a single scaffolding.

Putlog scaffold is erected by using a single row of standards and a single ledger. Putlog itself is a component of this scaffolding system and acts as a link between the ledger and the wall of the building. The wall of the building, at this stage, is basically just brick. Hence, putlog scaffolding also gets the term bricklayer’s scaffold.

The best thing about this scaffolding system is that it does not require as many components as an independent scaffold. It uses the building’s wall for support. Moreover, it is more rigid as compared to other scaffolding systems, because it is connected to the building itself. This makes the scaffold stand stable, even in windy situations.

But like everything else in life and in construction, this scaffolding has its own drawbacks. It slows down work because personnel has to wait for the brickwork to set before they can insert a putlog. Secondly, the holes left by putlogs have to be filled in when the scaffold is removed, and the building is for the most part complete. Therefore, it delays the completion of the construction project.
