Talking about the heat treatment, nut is treated as carburization and steel ball through hardening.

Screw rods and nuts are surface hardened for the following reasons:

Ball rods are hardened since it largely affects life.

They are not through hardened to avoid becoming brittle and prone to breakage.

In other cases where high temperature immunity and anti-corrosive property are desired, stainless steel is used. The stainless steel components are heat treated to achieve certain HRC 56-59 hardness.

What’s more, it shall be lubricating enough for the ball screw jack to operate; if there is a lack of oiling effect, the friction and brittle ratio will amass to cause malfunction of the screw jack as well as shorten its working life.
