How to Calculate the Loading Capacity of Scaffolding?
There are three types of scaffolding load:
#1 Dead load/Static load
#2 Live load/Dynamic load
#3 Wind load/Environmental load
Today, we will focus on the dead load and live load calculation of scaffolding. Below we will show two examples to you.
Sample one:
How to calculate the DEAD load capacity of scaffolding? There is an example of the Dead load calculation of scaffolding for your consideration. Scaffolding Pipe/tube weight 4.5 kg per meter as per BS EN 39:2001
1 piece of 3m standard = 14 kg.
1piece of Screw jack = 5 kg.
4 pieces of Ledgers 40 kg/2 = 20 kg.
4 pieces of Transoms =32 kg/2 = 16 kg.
1 piece of Face brace = 18 kg/2 =9 kg.
1piece of End brace = 10 kg/2 = 5 kg
5 pieces of 2.4m planks = 100 kg/4 = 25 kg
The dead load capacity is totally 94 kg.
Sample two:
How to calculate the Live load capacity of scaffolding?
#1 Light duty Scaffold: 225 kg/m2
#2 Medium duty Scaffold: 450kg/m2
#3 Heavy-duty Scaffold: 675 kg/m2
And we conclude that the Live load capacity is equal to the Worker's weight plus tools weight plus materials weight. The safe work load of scaffolding (SWL)= Dead loading capacity plus 4 times Live load capacity.
Sample three:
Scaffolding bag weight capacity
Scaffolding bag used for scaffolding materials lifting, ground to elevation. Mostly scaffolding bag made from canvas, it is very useful to lifting scaffolding components and scaffolding spanner.
The capacity of the scaffolding bag (SWL of Scaffolding Bag) is from 30 Kg to 50 Kg which is subject to scaffolding bag physical condition.
