Four Big Differences between SAW Pipes and ERW Pipes

The manufacturing processes of SAW pipes (LSAW, SSAW) and ERW pipes is entirely different. Below are the four big differences between SAW PIPES and ERW PIPES.

 

LSAW steel pipes

 

Toughness and fatigue strength

Pipeline development trend of large diameter, high strength. With the increase of the diameter of the pipe, the steel grade increase, resulting in greater the ductile fracture tip steady expansion trend. Spiral pipe and Longitudinal although the same as a level, but the spiral steel pipe has a high impact toughness.

 

ERW pipes residual stress ratio is lower than SAW pipes

The displacement of ERW pipes was smaller when compared along the axial and transverse incisions for comparison with SAW pipe built using the same material and it was also easy to detect.

 

ERW pipes Defect rates are lesser than SAW pipes

The defects found in ERW pipes are only confined to wire-line and straight welds and it can be inspected easily. The defects can be noticed easily and the ultrasonic reflection on the surface makes it easier to detect.

 

Performance

Once the pipes have the defect, the steel scrap and welding can be done on ERW pipes, while it is not the same in case of SAW pipes, which would result in cracking or corrosion, making the ERW pipes more durable.

 

The surface finish quality

Compared to SAW (LSAW, SSAW) pipes, the surface quality of ERW pipes is much better.
