4 Steps to Take If your Construction Material Arrives Damaged

Time:2019/03/07

What's your course of action if your construction material shipment arrives damaged or below quality expectations? Below I've outlined followed four steps to take.

#1 Contact the Supplier

First things first, get in touch with the supplier. It's always possible that there was some kind of mistake on their end, from mistakenly recording your product specifications or missing a step in the QA process. They should know what state the product was in when it left their facility.

We ADTO GROUP take many steps to ensure the construction material that leaves our facility meets customer specifications. We also take great care in packaging our shipments before they're in transit. And if anything does arrive below quality, we take the necessary corrective measures.

#2 Contact Shipping Company

Next, it may be necessary to speak with your shipping company. Now, if your supplier facilitated the shipping, it should be on them to straighten out any issues with the shipping company. But, if you had the goods shipped via a company of your choosing, that responsibility is yours.

If damage to your goods occurred during shipping, you may need to file a complaint before receiving reimbursement. This, of course, depends upon the customer service practices of whichever shipping company you contract through.

#3 Remedy the Situation

Regardless of 4 Steps to Take if Your Metal Product Arrives Damaged of who did what, the fact remains that you need a particular quantity, quality, and grade of construction material for your upcoming project.

And if you've already waited for one shipment and found it inadequate, it's also possible that you need it as soon as possible. Work with all the parties involved, and get the material you need.

#4 Adapt Your Approach

Whenever things don't go as planned, there is some value in taking stock of how a situation played out and deciding if there's something you could have done differently. Were your expectations communicated clearly? Did you specify your needs and expectations up front?

If you did, you're like the majority of the customers we work with each and every day. Still, sometimes things outside of the vendor's control and customer's control can happen. In those times, it's very easy to take corrective actions and get the customer the metal product they need in the quantity and at the quality their project requires.
